The Alameda de Hércules is an important public garden that is located in the historic center of Seville, near the Guadalquivir River. Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer was born near the Alameda, on Calle Conde de Barajas.
Being located at low altitude, when the Guadalquivir River overflowed, it formed a lagoon inside the walled area. In 1574 improvements were made by order of the Count of Barajas, using ditches with ditches to combat floods and adding trees, fountains and statues.

This garden was taken as a reference for other cities, such as the Alameda Centra in Mexico City (1592), the mall of San Pablo de Ecija (1578) or the Alameda de los Descalzos in Lima (1611).
In the Alameda we can find the Casa de Sirenas, a mansion from the 20th century. It is used as a civic center where we can attend exhibitions, courses, workshops, cultural and neighborhood activities
In 1989, there were 35 brothels in the area. Prostitution was eliminated and is now a renowned area of restaurants and bars.
