Antonio Machado and Seville
Antonio Machado and SevilleAntonio Machado was one of the most important poets of Spanish literature, and had its origins in Seville, where he was born and spent his early life. Thus, there are many places that still retain his and his family marks.

Traces of Machado in Seville

Dueñas Palace: His family had rented here some of its dependencies, so it was here where he was born on July 26, 1875. Well known is his poem in reference to the palace:

"My childhood are the memories of a courtyard in Seville, and a clear orchard where the lemon tree matures ... "

Church of San Juan de la Palma: His baptism took place two days after his birth in this temple nearest his home. Menjíbar Street: Here was located the school where the poet began his early school life. Mateo Alemán Street: His family moved to No. 1 this street in 1978. Museum of Fine Arts: Antonio Machado used to visit, together with his brother Manuel, the Seville gallery with his ??paternal grandmother, who was a lover of painting. She even did a portrait of her grandson when he was a child. O'Donnell Street: This was the last place where Antonio Machado lived in Seville, because when he was eight, his family moved to Madrid. Betis Street: This is where his mother was born and where she, too, would know the father of Antonio. Church of San Pedro Martir: in this place his parents were married and baptized his brother Manuel. Pureza Street: His father died here in 1893 and, after this, the family economic level waned, and with it some of the aspirations of the Machado brothers. Estrella Street: The institution that ensures Machado's legacy is based here. Their study focuses on the father of Antonio and Manuel, who was a great defender of Andalusian folklore. The "Machado Foundation" awarded annually some awards that reward the diffusion of  Andalusian culture and tradition, named awards "Demófilo" (nickname of the poet's father).
