General Archives of the Indies in Seville
In 1785, under the orders of King Carlos III, was built what is known today as the General Archives of the Indies.
Designed to protect and safeguard the funds produced by the institutions created by the Spanish administration for the government and administration of the Spanish overseas territories.
Inside there is a legacy of some 80 million pages of 43 000 bundles, which belonged to the government administrative revenue accounts when Spain was the owner of American and Asian colonies in that time.
There are also some navigation charts and detailed written of historical interest by Christopher Columbus, as well as some of the logs aboard the navigator used for his expeditions to the Indies.
The General Archives of the Indies is located on the Avenue of the Constitution, no street number, opens its doors almost all week with the following schedule, from Monday to Saturday from 09:30 to 17:00 and on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 to 14:00 hours. Every day there are explanatory visits concerning the temporary exhibition which has within one at 12:00 and another at 13:00.
