As is well known, the neighborhood of Triana in Seville is perhaps most famous among the Sevillian and the national and international tourists who visit our majestic city. But, as a curious fact, the birth of this unique neighborhood, which stretches across the river Guadalquivir, is quite interesting, whether true or not, the legend goes back many years ago, in ancient times .... Legend has it that the goddess Astarte who fleeing a love persecution from Hercules, took refuge in the river which is now known as Triana. The almighty Hercules, traveled throughout the Guadalquivir river bank looking to Astarte, but on the opposite side where she was, so he was unable to find it. When he was searching her, Hercules was amazed by the land that he was discovered and decided to found a city which gave it the name Hispalis. Astarte also, on the other side of the shore where her persecutor was, she thought of build a new city, which by its privileged nature, fascinated to the goddess of fertility. The legend tell us, that Astarte, decided to name this new city with the name of Triana. Myth, story or legend, no matter what the case, for those who know this area of Seville to the other side of the river, we know that there is an intangible magic, transparent to the eyes, and it may be possible that the goddess Astarte , is welcoming us when we walk the Triana streets.
