Blog Evening of Triana 2018

The traditional Velá de Santiago and Santa Ana will be held from 21 to 26 July 2018 in the popular neighborhood of Triana (Seville).

As every year, the district of Triana dresses up in the month of July to celebrate the patronal festivities of the neighborhood, coinciding with the onomastics of Santiago on July 25 and Santa Ana on July 26. In addition, this festival is declared as a Festival of Tourist Interest of Andalusia and Fiesta Mayor of the city of Seville.

Velá de Triana 2018

The Velá de Santa Ana is celebrated in the popular neighborhood of Triana since the late thirteenth century. In its origins it was a pilgrimage that was celebrated in the parish of Santa Ana, hence its name.

The Organizing Committee of the Vela of the Triana District has designated the brotherhood of Esperanza de Triana as an honorary institution for its contribution to the neighborhood this year on the occasion of the sixth centenary of the founding of the brotherhood.

The night of July 25 is one of the most emotional moments of the holidays. In the church of Santa Ana the traditional floral offering and fireworks are performed. At 24:00 there is a ringing of bells from the adorned tower, accompanied by the band of cornets and drums of the Christ of the Three Falls that performed several compositions.

At present it is a popular party that has different activities.

- Gymkhanas

- Fishing competitions

- Canoeing regattas

Contest of "the cucaña":

In a boat anchored in the Guadalquivir, a greased pole is placed in a horizontal position by which the participants must go through a race and reach a flag located at the end to later fall into the water.

Night performances: different musical performances are scheduled.

The streets are decorated with lanterns and there are booths where the assistants can enjoy the local gastronomy.

Other activities for these days

- In the convent church of Santa Ana, in the street of the same name of the neighborhood of San Lorenzo, there is a visit to the main altar, where in its second body is the group of Santa Ana and the virgin, work of Martínez Montañés from 1627.

- Visit also the Parish of Santa Ana, in Triana, to contemplate in the central altarpiece the group of Santa Ana and the Virgin with the child of Andrés Ocampo of the seventeenth century.

- We can also visit the Parish of Santiago, located in the Plaza de Jesus de la Redención, Santa Catalina area. In it, on the right side, we can admire the great painting that represents Santiago in the battle of Clavijo, the work of Mateo Pérez Asencio from the 17th century.
