Spanish square in Seville
One of the monuments of the twentieth century's most iconic in style and size, is certainly the Plaza Spain the Andalusian capital.
Spain Square is located on land that once were donated as part of the legacy that we left the Duchess of Montpensier for use and enjoyment of Seville.
Just in a boundary area of the park and gardens of Maria Luisa, find this symbolic place full of light, color and exquisite construction.
It was on the orders of the architect Aníbal González, who initiated the construction of the Plaza Spain in 1914 on the occasion of the celebration in our city of the Iberoamerican Exhibition of 1929.
The shape of this square is semicircular, facing the river Guadalquivir as following the way to America and symbolizing a hug from Spain and its former colonies, is bathed by a canal and two towers flanking. The work was made of brick, tile, wrought iron, ceramic and marble columns as building materials, today its architectural style is known as Regionalism Sevillano.
In the space of its walls are benches that define the space of fifty Spanish provinces ranging alphabetically, in such banks can observe the shields, map and some prominent historical events of the Spanish provinces.
Spain Square is open from 09:00 am and closes sometimes even past midnight, there are rowboats to walk around the canal and the entrance to the monument is free.
