On 16 and 17 February 2017 will be held in Seville the Sixth Congress of the Spanish Network of Social Policy (REPS) under Espanet-Europe (The European Network for Social Policy Analysis).

The congress, organized by the University Pablo de Olavide, is not only a milestone in the development of the REPS, which began in Oviedo in 2009, continued in Madrid, Pamplona, ​​Alcala de Henares and Barcelona, ​​but also a new opportunity for sharing and learning knowledge in social policies.

Poverty and Social Exclusion

In addition, the social impact of the crisis in Spain since 2008, which extends to the present in the form of higher rates of poverty and social exclusion, as well as paralysis of social policies, is a challenge for scholars and professionals different areas of social policy. All this in an environment in which different countries of the European Union, and this whole, question the rights of refugees and social policies are subordinated to the priority of policies of fiscal and monetary tightening.

There is no doubt that we are in an exceptional historical moment, both in Spain and in the European Union, which profoundly affects the future of social policy and development of social rights. Congress can contribute to greater social awareness and thereby to influence the development of social policies.
