The Palace of the Duchess of Alba in Seville was his favorite among the many properties possessed by all Spanish geography. His name is Palacio de las Duenas, and should this name to the famous monastery of Santa María de las Dueñas. It was built between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, it was the residence of the Pineda family, and also the house where the great writer and poet Antonio Machado was born Seville.
It became part of the legacy of the House of Alba in 1612, and so to this day. The recently deceased Cayetana de Alba, XVIII Duchess of Alba, left his title to his eldest son, Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, the which since last November 20, is the current Duke of Alba, and the head of the great legacy that has this family.
Art in the Palacio de Dueñas
The large collection of art in the Palacio de Dueñas, and the value it has, is incalculable. Is known to have approximately 1425 works, among which stand out Christ Crowned with Thorns, of José de Ribera; the set of Spanish art of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with Mariano Benlliure, Sorolla, Carmen Laffón, and many more; and also something unique and unrepeatable, a watercolor by Jackie Kennedy, the which gave it to the Duchess during your stay in our city in 1967. It is certainly one of the treasures of the Andalusian capital.
