Fine Art Museum in Seville
In a city like Seville, culture and religion have been closely linked throughout history, it is not surprising that a former convent has been transformed into the most important museum in the city.
Inside a building, which in itself is an artwork, is the second national art gallery because of the quality of the works it contains.
The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville is focused primarily on the Seville school, being Murillo, Zurbarán, Valdés Leal or Gonzalo Bilbao some major authors whose paintings are there. Besides paintings, the museum also houses sculptures by artists such as Pedro de Mena.
But to know and thoroughly enjoy this source of art, culture and history, it is appropriate to establish an order: the museum is set around fourteen rooms spread over two floors which are organized chronologically.
On the ground floor you can admire the paintings and sculptures of the fifteenth Century of Seville, the art of the Renaissance, Mannerism and Naturalism. The last room on this floor is reserved for Murillo and BaroqueSevillianSchool.
On the second floor you can see works of Spanish and European Baroque. In this second level there are two rooms reserved for Zurbarán and Valdés Leal. And finally works can be seen Seville and Spanish painting of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Summer time at the Museum of Fine Arts is: Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to 3:30 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. Closed on Mondays. The ticket price is 1,50 €, to be free for Spanish and European Union citizens.
