Seville in the route of Magallanes
Seville leads the Network of Cities Magallanicas, to collaborate in the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the first world tour by ship, headed by Fernando de Magallanes.
Together with Seville, another 7 cities form this route with the aim to turn it into Immaterial Heritage of the Humanity. These cities are Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Lisbon, Oporto and Sabrosa in Portugal Puerto San Julián in Argentina and Punta Arena and Ushaia in Chile. It is expected that other cities like Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Buenos Aires in Argentina, will join this route in the future.
In the sixteenth century, Seville was the commercial capital of the Spanish Empire, serving as a starting point for Magellan's men, who departed with five ships in 1519. It was called the Navy of the Grocery. In 1522, 18 crew members led by Juan Sebastian el Cano, arrived in Seville completing the first trip around the world aboard the Vessel Victoria.
Seville turned into the world capital, since from its port began and finished an adventure that was going to change the history.
