Van Dyck´s picture at the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville
"Don Diego de Mexia, Marquis of Leganés," is the name of the painting, work of Antoon Van Dyck, that the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville will host until July 6.
The pupil of Rubens, Antoon Van Dyck, is considered one of the great masters of Baroque painting. Van Dyck was born in 1599 and died very young, only 42 years old. He portrayed his good friend Don Diego in 1627, when the Marquis visited Brussels to manage the alliance of Spain and France against England.
Don Diego de Mexia, was a prestigious general and politician, son of parents very important at the time. Thanks to his great interest in painting, became a patron and he invested much of his fortune to acquire the most important paintings of Flemish, Italian and Spanish masters at the time. He had more than 1,300 works of art.
